Greetings,
I am so excited that you have chosen to begin music lessons that will be a part of your life forever. Dick Clark once said, “Music is the soundtrack to life.” This has been my mission statement in creating Fitzpatrick’s Music & More. Music is my life, my hobby, and my downtime. I look forward in sharing my passion for music with you. Below you will find some important and helpful information. Please take a few minutes to review this.
Contact Information
My studio address is:
108 Royal Street Unit B
Ravenswood, WV 26164
My phone number is: (304) 512-0433
My email address is: fitzpatrickslessons@gmail.com
My website is: ForrestFitzpatrick.com
I live in a ranch style home with gray siding and blue shutters. PLEASE DO NOT TURN AROUND IN MY NEIGHBOR’S DRIVEWAY. If you need to turn around, please go to the church past my house and turn around there. Feel free to park in our side gravel driveway or behind my black Kia. Also, feel free to park in the grass if it has not rained or is currently raining.
Music & Supplies
You will not need to purchase any music or supplies prior to your first lesson with me. I have all the music books and supplies you will need. Many times, I will evaluate your musical knowledge and ability level to decide which level or series to start you in. This process may take 2-3 weeks. Once a decision has been made, you will receive your lesson books & supplies. I will invoice you the total amount due.
Recurring Appointment
Feel free to schedule ahead. If you want a recurring time (same day/same time), contact me and I can make this happen. All appointments are first come-first serve.
Online Formats
I currently use two internet formats to have an online lesson call:
· FaceTime (Apple products).
· Facebook Messenger (Video chat).
Cancellation Policy
I would rather you not cancel a scheduled lesson; instead, move it to another day and/or time. You will receive an email and a text message prior to the day and on the day of the lesson as a reminder. Once you schedule a lesson, that is your time with me. No one else can have that time. The sooner you can reschedule, the sooner someone else can fill that time.
Recital Opportunities
I normally have a scheduled student recital the first Saturday after New Year Day. In addition, I have also scheduled a student recital the first Saturday in June. I would encourage all my students to participate; however, it is not required. Song selections do not need to be memorized. It is also live streamed on Facebook in case your family and friends cannot attend. All welcome to attend. Free admission.
Work Schedule
I teach General Music classes at Ravenswood Middle School M-F 7:30-11:30 am during the regular school year.
I teach private music students M-F 12:30-8 pm, Saturdays 9:00 am - 6 pm, and Sundays 12:00 pm - 8 pm.
I teach 52 weeks a year. If your regularly scheduled lesson falls on a major holiday, I may ask to reschedule your appointment.
Payment & Fees
I accept the following forms of payment:
· Cash
· Checks made out to “Forrest Fitzpatrick.”
· Apple Cash
· PayPal
· Cash App
I prefer to be paid at the beginning of the month for the whole month if that works with your budget. If not, you can pay me when you have a lesson. I will send you an invoice through PayPal on the 1st of every month.
Currently, I charge $45.00 for an hour lesson and $30.00 for a half hour lesson.
Let’s enjoy the trip,
Forrest
Piano Lessons
· An acoustic piano is preferred when taking piano lessons. If you don’t have an acoustic piano, an electric keyboard works just as well. I would also recommend that you get your acoustic piano tuned at least twice a year. Once in the spring & once in the fall. Here’s the contact information for the piano tuner/technician I highly recommend: Eric Hutton. (He lives in Parkersburg, WV. Feel free to contact him for prices & appointments. His work number is (304) 464-5021. You will speak to his booking assistant, Sue. Please tell her that I recommended him to you as a piano tuner. If you need work done on your piano, he is also a fantastic piano technician.)
· If you have an electric keyboard, please make sure it has weighted keys and a sustain pedal.
· If you are looking for an acoustic piano or electronic keyboard, check out Facebook marketplaces. A lot of times, they are giving them away.
Online Piano Lessons
· You will need a handsfree stand to hold your phone, laptop, or iPad so I can view your hands on the keys.
· You will also need good internet. Please encourage others in the household not to be online while we are on a virtual lesson call. This will slow down your internet speed.
· I will mail your instructional books to you.
Voice
· You will need a three-ringed binder with sheet protectors.
Online Voice
· You will need a handsfree stand to hold your phone, laptop, or iPad so I can view your face down to your stomach.
· You will also need good internet. Please encourage others in the household not to be online while we are on a virtual lesson call. This will slow down your internet speed.
· You will need a portable CD/Cassette Player or Karaoke sound system. You might also want to have soundtracks or use You Tube Karaoke versions of songs you want to sing or learn.
Guitar/Ukulele
· You will need an acoustic guitar either with metal or nylon strings.
· You might want to learn an ukulele first before learning a guitar. Here are a few reasons why:
· Only 4 strings
· Costs less
· Nylon strings vs. metal strings
· There is pain involved in learning the guitar. Your left-hand fingers will develop blisters and then calluses.
· There’s a music store in Parkersburg, WV, called CA House Music that has guitars and ukuleles in stock. They can also put new strings on your guitar or ukulele. I can also supply a ukulele if you need one.
· Guitar picks
· Guitar capo
